INTRODUCTION

NYANI TRIBAL VILLAGE
A SIMPLE SHANGAAN THOUGHT

No matter what scenic beauty may touch one, or even if it be the awe inspiring opulence or sheer luxury of what one might see....... There is nothing more lasting or meaningful than the simple sharing of one's soul with the people, particularly those of another culture, who wholeheartedly and humbly offer all they may have. For the day that one may feel that you have nothing more to learn.....  then  ..... KNOW THIS.......that day will be the last day of your wisdom!

Just as all the different parts of one's body combine to make one feel whole and healthy, so too, our South Africa, shouts out one singular slogan SIMUNYE!!!! ....... (We are one!)

THANK YOU FOR VISITING THE
NYANI SHANGAAN VILLAGE
WEBSITE.

We invite you to rub shoulder with the magic of Africa
(Authentic .......................Unspoiled)

NYANI TRIBAL VILLAGE

Nyani Tribal Village has been reconstructed to resemble an authentic Shangaan village of some 50 plus years ago.

Bruce and Judy Meeser teamed up with Axon Khosa, the grandson of the late local Shangaan Chief Kapama, in an attempt to preserve the culture of the Shangaans of this area, as well as to educate local and foreign tourists in the traditions and costumes of a fascinating community who inhabited this once so hostile area. No artificial or modern materials were used in the construction and as far as possible all artifacts are true to time.

Bruce and Judy provided for and explored different market possibilities for such a place, while Axon researched on how to authentically go about reconstructing the lay out of such a village, as well as the normal day to day patterns of village family life that pertained to that period. The task of procuring historical details of the Shangaan nation and items of interest associated with their past customs and beliefs was researched by Johnny, Bruce's father.

All visitors to the village are guided and entertained by Axon himself, who enjoys an intimate knowledge of the Shangaan culture and history. Together with members of Axon's family and relations, all present on site, visitors are given the opportunity to share with them the ongoing activities of such a working village in their past day to day living customs, such as games that taught maidens to count, board games played only by men in their exclusive section of the village, or how to work snares and traps catching birds such as francolin, or even how to paint and decorate hut walls with brightly coloured mud taken from termite mounds.

Guests are initially given a choice of how they would prefer their visit to be conducted: -

What others had to say:
Enid Kulesh from Canada commented as follows on 07 APR 2004:
I had the most wonderful day taking a tour with Given and Harmony, and then going back again that night for dinner and the dancing. The village is an excellent idea, and I have spoken to so many people about the education I got during my visit. I do hope that you will continue to work toward the education of young and old alike, and will help to bring all creeds and colours together. There are so many wonderful customs that belong to your people, and we "Whities" could well be learning from you. Your own young people will benefit greatly from their experiences in your village. I think my experience with you was the BEST day of my 2 1/2 month tour of your country! Go well, each of you! And many thanks to all!
