About the lodge:
 Vilanculos Beach Lodge is a small, exclusive and private lodge situated on mainland Mozambique, 5km from Vilanculos Village. It lies ±700 km north of Maputo, directly opposite the islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago in the tropical Inhambane province.
The chalets are luxury en-suite with either one or two bedrooms. There are 10 chalets in total, 5 for 2 persons with bedroom, en-suite bathroom and veranda and 5 family chalets with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and veranda (capacity 5 persons). The maximum capacity of the lodge is 35 persons. Each chalet is built on ironwood stilts with raised mahogany decks and a tasteful combination of mahogany and reed walls. The chalets have total privacy and a magnificent sea view.
The beautifully constructed restaurant and bar offer traditionalMozambican and standard western cuisine.
From the comfort of the lodge you will be able to explore the exotic surroundings as well as have a perfect base to explore any of the archipelago island.

ACTIVITIES:

Deep Sea Fishing:
 The Bazaruto Archipelago area has some of the best game fishing in the world. Hire one of our boats or bring your own. Safe parking for cars and trailers is available as well as launching facilities for boats (Boat launching is done in the village to avoid spoiling the beautiful beaches).

Diving and Snorkelling:
 Scuba diving packages and dives can be organised by the staff at the lodge, or can be pre-booked through our central reservations office. We currently use Vilanculos Dive Charters (an independant operator who services the lodge) for our scuba diving.
Snorkelling trips can be arranged and snorkelling equipment is included in the boat hire price.

Yacht Cruises:
 Cruises on various catamarans on charter in the area can be organized by the staff of the lodge.

Non-motorised Watersport:
 Currently we have a laser sail boat, windsurfer,surf ski/canoes, sea kayaks and paddle skis. These are available to our guests free of charge.

Other Activities:
 The area is lovely for hiking through untouched nature with an incredible bird life. The unspoilt and tranquil beaches are ideal for long scenic beach walks and shell collecting.The sea is calm and shallow in front of the lodge and ideal for swimming and paddling.
The lodge is within close distance (4km) from the village where one can visit the local market or just have a look around town.
One could also set sail for a day amongst the islands on a traditional Dhow.
A swimming pool and deck is also offered for those sundowners at the end of a perfect day.

Access by road from South Africa
 The road is tarred all the way from Komatipoort border to Vilanculos & Palmeiras and a 4x4 is not required. Look out for potholes and roadworks. Follow the main toll road from Komatipoort to Maputo. Just before getting into Maputo, you turn left onto the National road EN1 to the North (Xai-Xai, Inhambane, Vilanculos, Beira). From this point the turn-off to the right towards Vilanculos is ±700km. Our signs will lead you from the village to the lodge, which lies about 4km north of the village.

Access by air from South Africa
 Vilanculos has an International airport. Currently one can fly with SA Airways or LAM to Maputo and then link with Transairways or LAM from Maputo to Vilanculos (see Mozambique flights below) This may warrant a night stopover in Maputo. Alternatively one can fly direct from Johannesburg International three times a week direct to Vilanculos - Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Contact Backpack Africa for details.
