The lodge and surroundings:
Motse Lodge is a quaint new comfortable tourist facility opened in March, 2002, and located near Makgodumo dam along the old Moshupa road in the village of Kanye. The lodge has five very comfortable air-conditioned rooms with television and private bath, and seven thatched chalets, each with toilet en-suite, one double bed, and one 3/4. The lodge has an enticingly clean fibre-glass swimming pool, and a beautiful outdoor garden with tables and chairs for dining, or just for relaxing. Included is a fenced camping area near the garden and pool, with access to toilets and hot showers. The lodge also has an air-conditioned restaurant, and a separate air-conditioned conference room able to handle groups of up to 40. Motse Lodge is a modern, well-equipped facility, but has the relaxing atmosphere of a bush camp. The service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

The courtyard:
A central courtyard to while away your time leads to well appointed air conditioned bedrooms, each with satellite TV. On site restaurant and bar with a compact kidney shaped pool. Exclusive and private yet close to Kanye. Tourism, business, work or relaxation, we cater for all our visitors with the same care
|
The lake:
Tourists can enjoy a short stroll to the lake nearby and watch farmers water their herds. The hills around Motse Lodge hide many caves while the Livingstone Monument and the town of Kanye are only a short drive away
|
Conference facilities:
Conference facilities are available, either on a daily basis, or residentially. Meet with your colleagues, and perhaps enjoy a braai (barbecue) round the pool. Our conference room is well equipped, air conditioned and can accommodate up to 40 people.
|
Culture:
Motse Lodge was once an artists' colony, and today a range of cultural activites continue within the grounds. The buildings have been completely redeveloped with traditional thatched roofs. A new swimming pool has been added, and a poolside bar and changing rooms opened in mid 2002. Motse has a wonderful restaurant, and its modest menu features only the best of local produce.

ADDITIONAL INFO |
Kanye and surroundings:
The hilly landscape in and around Kanye is rich with view points, dams, gorges and the large traditional village.
The dams, hills and forests are home to a great variety of birds. There are baboons, vervet monkeys, kudus, duiker, steenbok, jackals and many other animals to be found. Visit the main Kgotla and see the old part of the village or spend an interesting day on a drive to the lands and the cattleposts.
The newly opened museum is worth a visit to explore the interesting history of the Bangwaketse.
|
Our touring activities include:
Explore the close surroundings on foot, donkey cart, mountain bike or quad bike.
Experience Setswana crafts and culture at the unique cultural village.
Relax by the dam at sunset or try the fishing.
For international tourists, Kanye makes for an inexpensive base-camp from which many local cultural and historic sites can be visited. The lodge has some Yamaha ATV's (quad bikes) available for exploring the surrounding hills and valleys, and a small touring vehicle available for longer drives to some of the many nearby villages and towns, including Jwaneng. At Jwaneneg, tours can be arranged (advance notice required) into the largest gemstone producing diamond mine in the world.

Location:
Kanye is a one-hour drive South-west from Gaborone, or 30 minutes from Lobatse along the road to Jwaneng, now part of the new Trans-Kalahari highway. Kanye is a four to five-hour drive from Johannesburg, crossing into Botswana at Lobatse. It takes about six hours from Kanye to the Namibian boarder on the way to Windhoek, or about eight to nine hours to reach Maun. Kanye is a lovely village with many good roads and trails for driving or hiking. It makes for a good stop-over point on the way from South Africa to Namibia, or on the way up to Maun and North-western Botswana on the excellent new road passing through Ghanzi.
From Gabarone or Jwaneng going through Kanye towards Lobatse, take the gravelled old Moshupa Road on your left. Look out for our sign boards at this junction.
